AKTION CLUB IS A COMMUNITY-SERVICE GROUP FOR ADULT CITIZENS WHO LIVE WITH A DISABILITY

 The Kiwanis Club of Carefree is very proud of it's relationship and support to this newest member of the Sponsored Organizations Program at Kiwanis International.
The mission of Aktion Club is:
To provide adults living with disabilities an opportunity to develop initiative and leadership skills
To serve their community.
To be integrated into society
To demonstrate the dignity and value of citizens living with disabilities.

Aktion Club members strive to return to their communities, the benefits, help, and caring they have received, as well as develop important skills in the process.

You would likely ask, what does an Aktion Club do?
An Aktion Club performs a variety of services for the community. It conducts fund-raisers such as car washes, paper drives, and recycling projects to raise money for needs in the community.
Aktion Club members perform a variety of community services, such as environmental projects, park beautification, food drives, nursing home visitations, and assisting Kiwanis Clubs with their projects.

AKTION CLUB MEMBERS MEET AT THE HOLLAND COMMUNITY CENTER

Aktion Clubs also take time out to have fun! Aktion members visit zoos, go to sporting events, and visit museums, among many other activities. They play as hard as they work.


THe new Cave Creek Aktion Club currently has 11 members with another two that have indicated interest.
The club members recently collected food for the Foothills Food Bank and brought all of their collected donations for giving by the Food Bank to needy families in our communities.



AKTION CLUB MEMBERS ARRIVE WITH FOOD ITEMS FOR FOOD BANK

The club met for their intial meeting this past September and meets on the first and third Thursdays of each month at the Holland Community Center.
Community Service Projects have included: Carefree Christmas Festival, Cave Creek Bicycle Festival, , Foothills Food Bank and the Carefree 25th Anniversary Celebration.

  We are a service organization in the Desert Foothills area that focuses on helping children develop their potential. We do this by offering scholarships, educational support, health care and hope. Our members represent a diverse group of business people and professionals. We began our local club in 1973 with 22 members. Now we have almost 300 members

We are now the 7th largest club of Kiwanis International. Kiwanis International has more than 600,000 members in over 80 countries. It has a number of initiatives – medical, educational, disaster relief – serving children around the world.More than 90% of our funds are distributed locally in our community. Through Kiwanis International in partnership with UNICEF, we also support a worldwide initiative to reduce iodine deficiency.

Did You Know.........
During the past twelve months, the members of the Kiwanis Club of Carefree:
Donated over 7,000 hours of member personal time to support projects for the children of our local communities.
Raised over $110,000 in local fund raisers to support children projects through Pancake Breakfasts and Flea Market programs.
Received donations of $2.5 million in the last twelve months
Donated or funded over $700,000 to the community this year with some of those funds going to the Foothills YMCA - $200,000; Foothills Caring Corps - $107,020 for community projects.
